Adding items to the list

If you want to add items to the list there are two ways you can achieve that:

  • Press the + sign at the top of the screen and simply write down your item
  • Press the microphone icon and speak your item. Under Settings, set the value of the Separator to AND so that you are able to enter several items at once.
Help, I have accidentally deleted an item. What now?

If you deleted an item by accident you can retrieve the respective item from History. Simply go to the 3 dots menu (top right) and choose History. Press the ‚clock’ icon to make sure most recent items show on top. Now check the box next to your desired item and press Text import. You can check multiple items to be restored at once.

How do I delete/ rename/ edit a category/ item?

If you wish to delete, rename or edit a category/ item you have to long press on the desired entry. An additional Menu will appear on screen. Simply select the desired option from the list.

How do I enter multiple items at once?

To enter multiple items at once, you should go to the 3 lines menu (top left) and select Settings – Speech recognition – Separator. Write AND as your separator value and press OK. Restart the app and speak your items: for example ‘bread AND milk AND honey’. The respective items will show as three separate entries.

How do I order items?

For the time being, you can re-arrange items by drag & drop. Simply press the gray rectangle next to the item you would like to move and drag it to the desired position.

How to prevent accidentally deleting articles?

To prevent accidentally deleting items you should go to Settings – List – Double click to delete. Restart the app to enable the new settings. Now, if you want to delete an item, you need to press the red cross twice.

How to prevent adding items that are already on the list

If you notice double entries on your list, simply go to Settings — List — Do not allow duplicate items.

How to restore a deleted item from history?

To restore an item from history you should go to the 3 dots menu – History. Then, search for your item and check the box next to its name. Press on „Text import” at the bottom of the screen.

I want to delete an item permanently

To permanently delete an item you should first press the red cross next to the item – or double click it if you have chosen this option under Settings to prevent accidentally deleting articles (See here on how to enable this option). You should then go to the 3 dots menu – History. Now select the items that you would like to remove permanently and press the Bin icon at the top of the screen. Now the items have been successfully removed from your phone permanently and cannot be retrieved.

Lists

Do I need to save the list?

There is no need to save the list after you’re done creating and modifying it. Changes are saved automatically, and will reflect on the other devices your lists are synced with. To know more about Syncing, check this.

How can I delete a list?

To delete a list simply long press on it and choose Delete from the menu.

How do I add a recipe?

You can add a recipe from the drop-down 3 dots menu — Recipes (pres ‚+’ button at the top). After you have added a recipe you can click on it and add some ingredients (plus button/mic button at the top). If you want to create a recipe from a list of ingredients you found online, you can use the import feature.

  1. select the ingredients list from a text recipe
  2. select share, share into the shopping app/ alternatively, copy the text and then open the import dialog (3 dots menu — import) and paste into the text field
  3. select the separator (default “new line”)
  4. select recipe at the bottom
  5. press the import button
How do I change the background/ use a photo from gallery?

If you want to customize the look of your app you can do so from the Settings menu.  Simply go to Settings – Background and choose one of the predefined backgrounds or import a photo from your own gallery. Please note that the app automatically rotates pictures in portrait mode, so make sure the photo you use is already in portrait.

How do I use categories?

Categories can be used when you need to break down items on a list, say Food and Drinks as some examples of categories. To create a category, go to the 3 dots menu — Categories. In the new screen that appears, choose a name for your category then click ‘Save category’. Holding the grey rectangle in front of each item, drag and drop the items on your list into the new categories. Future updates will lock down products in their respective categories to make items easier to sort, so check back often 🙂

How to create a list from an existing one?

Say you need an old list…with a twist 🙂 You can use any list as template for a new one. Simply go to the 3 lines menu and press New list. From the sub-menu select Create from an existing list. Check the preferred list and press New list. Choose a name for your new list, and you’re good to go. …Shopping, that is 😉

Alternatively, you can go to the 3 lines menu and press on the list you wish to use as a template. From the sub-menu choose Copy to another list. You then get to rename your list and edit items to your liking.

 

Whenever I try to delete a list I get the following message: Default list cannot be deleted

Please note that the default list (as in the list that was already there when you installed the app) cannot be deleted. In that case you can choose Empty instead of Delete and you are left with a blank list that can be renamed and you basically start afresh.

Miscellaneous

Does the app run on WiFi or does it operate offline?

The app only needs an Internet connection while syncing lists. All other operations can be done offline.

How can I export/ back-up data?

All the data in this app is stored in your phone. This means that if anything happens to your device, there is no way you can restore the content of the lists! If you want to back up your data, you can transfer it for safe storage to another device. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Export button on your old phone
  2. Connect your phone to a PC / choose Media USB Type
  3. Open the SD card folder on your phone
  4. Copy the two files (settings.ekz and ekz.db)
  5. Connect your new phone
  6. Copy the files into the SD card folder
  7. Press import on your new phone
How can I retrieve my data after factory reset?

All the data in the app is saved on your phone. This means that a factory reset makes the data impossible to retrieve. To prevent this, make sure you back up your lists or store the data some place safe. You can do so by following the steps below:

  1. Press the Export button on your old phone
  2. Connect your phone to a PC / choose Media USB Type
  3. Open the SD card folder on your phone
  4. Copy the two files (settings.ekz and ekz.db)
  5. Connect your new phone
  6. Copy the files into the SD card folder
  7. Press import on your new phone

How to transfer my lists from the free to the paid version?

When you install the paid version you will notice there are 2 different apps now on your phone.  To transfer all your lists and settings, you can use the Import / Export tool (Settings — Settings — Export from inside your free app). Open your paid app and repeat the same steps as before, just this time press Import instead. After you check the transfer really worked, you can delete the free version.

I purchased the paid version but had to uninstall. Can I download it again free of charge?

Payment information is account dependent. You can re-install the Pro version you have previously bought without paying for it again if you simply make sure you do so from the same user account you purchased it from.

Is the app available for iOS?

For the time being, the app is only available to Android users.

Synchronization

Can I also have my list on a 2nd device?

Sure, you can sync your list on another device! Just follow the steps below:

1. Open Sync Page
2. Release the list (the ‘plus sign’ icon at the top of the screen)
3. Choose the list you want to release and press the release button. The Password is optional
4. On the other device, open the link page (select the ‘link’ icon at the top of the screen).
5. Press the scan button and scan the code from the other phone. If you have set a password insert it.
Now press the connect list button ad you’re done.

 

 

Can I share my list with another person?

Not only you can, but you should! 🙂

If you choose to sync your lists, any changes you make on a list will automatically show up in the other person’s phone. Say good bye to frustrations caused by last moment changes. Simply follow the steps here:

The content of a list can also be shared via WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger or email. Simply go to the 3 dots menu and choose Share current list. Choose you option from either List or Enumeration (both options offer a nice preview) and press Share current list.

Please note that unlike syncing, sharing does not make the list interactive!

Troubleshooting

My list looks broken, it only displays on the right side of the screen. I want it full page!

If the list only shows on half of your screen go to Settings (bottom left) – Menu and make sure the option Always open is not checked.

The app uses too much battery…

There’s nothing more convenient than saying good bye to those little scribbled shopping lists. Keeping your eyes on an e-list open on your phone is so much better. But maybe you are at the end of a long day. You probably wouldn’t want your phone to die on you, right? If your display stays active for as long as the app is open, then you might notice it drains your battery rather quickly. To prevent this from happening, simply go to the 3 lines menu – Settings – Display. Make sure you un-check the ‘Display stays active when the app is running’.

Voice recognition has become slow and inaccurate

Please check first if the default voice recognition is set to Google in the Android settings of you device. (Android Settings — Language & Input — Language input). Then activate the New language input from the settings menu of the Shopping cart app (Settings — Language input — Activate new voice input).

Why can’t I use the microphone? When I try to add items using the voice input I get the following message “Please install Google App”…
